As the nickname Daniel John Shane suggests, the first Cleary to have lived here was Daniel`s grandfather, Shane Cleary. Then by 1856, his son John was head of the house. In the 1901 Census, Daniel is listed as head of the family and is 63 years of age. His wife Rose is 50 and they have a son and daughter, John 13 and Rose 11.  Ten years later all four of this family are still living there.

This house was last occupied by the Gordon family who eventually moved to Draperstown. Everyone remembers  head of the family John who was a WW1 veteran and a very witty and popular man who worked for farmers in the area. He and his wife Biddy, reared their family in this little house until they eventually got a house in Draperstown.
