Irish Speakers in the Sixtowns in 1911.

The Irish language was obviously still in use in many households in the Sixtowns right into the twentieth century. English was then the dominant language and Irish was mostly spoken by the older generations around the firesides or in many cases when they did not want the younger ones to know what they were talking about. Many old Irish words were commonly used among the older people right up into the end of the 1900`s.
In the census of 1911 residents of the Sixtowns were asked to state if they had any other language than English and the following people stated that they had Irish.
